During my tenure with Huneeus Vintners, I managed construction of the winery at Quintessa. Located in the Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, the winery consists of a graceful crescent-shaped design, carefully considered for its environmental sensitivity, fitting snugly into an eastern-facing hillside of the estate.
The design facilitates a gravity-flow process and a state-of-the-art winery outfitted with the latest in winemaking technology. At the heart of the winery and overlooking the tanks and press hall below, sits a glass-enclosed blending room and adjoining laboratory. Behind the press hall lies the main entrance to Quintessa’s cave structure, 1,200 linear feet, and 17,000 square feet, carved into the hillside directly behind the winery.
As the owner’s representative on this project, my involvement ran from the final stages of the design process through completion, occupancy and continued into operations. I oversaw the project budgets, schedules, documentation, coordinated all entitlements and permitting with Napa County, and negotiated contracts with the design team, contractors and vendors.
The entire project was approximately $20MM and encompassed multiple improvements including a left hand turn lane and entrance on the Silverado Trail, the winery and adjacent vineyard, and a new waste water treatment pond.
